Module 1: Course Introduction. Basic Math Review.

BASIC MATHEMATICS REVIEW

This week's assignment it to review basic math.  First, please read the assignment:
Optical Formulas Tutorial pages 1-8.
Do the exercises in the Tutorial as you go through the pages and check your answer in the back of the book on page 206.  Do the exercises first, write out your answers, then check.  Don't just look at the answers and say, 'Yeah, I would have gotten that if I had tried.'  If you start that way you are going to have a very long and frustrating semester.

Next read the assignment:

Systems for Ophthalmic Dispensing pages 365-371 (stop at vector analysis).
and do problems 1-13 on page 373.  Check your answers on page 567.

The arithmetic and algebra in this should be easy for you.  You were required to show that you knew basic algebra when you entered the Opticianry program.  If you could not do those problems you need to talk to a math tutor at your school, or take some remedial algebra before you continue this course.

  3. The geometry and trigonometry may not be familiar to you, either.  If so, please follow this link and do the exercises:
