Early AR Coatings
The original single-layer coatings were designed to cancel yellow rays, since they are in the middle of the visual range, and since they are the wavelength of the greatest sensitivity for the human eye.
Since this thickness did not cancel the red or blue ends, the result was a purple reflection that was much less intense than the original white reflection.
